How to cover grey hair with henna and indigo

Step-by-step instructions

Covering Gray Hair Naturally Brunette

It is very easy to cover gray hair with henna and indigo. And it is the healthiest possible way on the Planet. Not only your gray hair will become dark, but it will also become a lot healthier than before. You will look at least ten years younger and healthier, and you will feel younger and healthier than before.

If your hair is gray or white, you may need to add more indigo than henna to make it dark brown:
  • One tablespoon of henna
  • Three tablespoons of indigo
You must use glass or plastic bowls (not iron) and wooden or plastic spoons to mix henna and indigo.

Here is reliable step-by-step procedure:

1. Mix henna with either lemon juice (or apple cider vinegar) at least 8 hours in advance (oxidization process lasts for at least 8 hours). Make it as thick as yogurt. Cover the bowl with a plastic bag and keep in warm temperature premises.

2. Wash your hair well with shampoo (you can use baby shampoo or any other shampoo; organic shampoo is better than chemical shampoo). Wait for about half an hour or so - till your hair becomes dry.

3. Prepare rubber gloves and a plastic bag to cover your hair. Also, get some paper or plastic bags - put them around - to avoid staining your bathroom.

4. Mix indigo with boiled (but not hot) water. Make it as thick as yogurt.  Go to the next step (step 5 - as soon as possible - do not wait longer than 15 minutes).

5. Now get your henna (the one you prepared in advance) and mix it with indigo. You must mix it well, intensively, for about 5 minutes.

6. Start using it immediately. Put on your gloves and put the mixed 'mud' on your hair. Make sure it gets close to the scalp. If you stained other places - ears or neck or other parts of your body - do not worry about it. You will be able to wash them out later with water.

7. Cover your hair carefully with a plastic bag or plastic cap.

8. Wait for three hours. You can sleep if you like (some people keep it overnight, to make the color darker and richer).

9. After 3 hours, wash your hair with lukewarm (but not hot) water until the henna-indigo 'mud' goes away. Then wash your hair with shampoo.

If the color is still not what you had expected (if it is a little reddish or orange), repeat the procedure next day (1 tablespoon of henna, three tablespoons of indigo). Remember, the more you repeat, the darker the effect will be.

You can use henna and indigo every two weeks, and this will do good for your hair and scalp (and will cover the gray hair roots). You can apply to roots only if you wish.

Make sure that henna and indigo contain no chemical ingredients - should be pure henna and pure indigo.

If you want to make your gray hair black, you can follow the two-step process within the same day:

Step 1: Dye your hair with henna. Your hair will become orange.

Step 2: Dye your hair with indigo (you can add a little bit of henna if you want)

Result: Your hair will become black.
