How to dye gray / white hair blond organically (with cassia)

Is your hair grey? Do you want to make it look golden?
- No problem. You can do it organically. And the good news is that your hair will become healthier and thicker than before.

Dye your hair with cassia / cassia obovata / senna obovata and you will have a lovely golden color.
Here are the seven steps to follow:
  1. Mix cassia with lemon, orange juice or apple cider vinegar (make it as thick as yogurt)
  2. Allow it to sit for twelve or more hours (can be even a few days)
  3. Put on rubber gloves and apply the cassia to your scalp
  4. Wrap your hair in plastic wrap (you can use a plastic bag or cap); do not worry about the skin - you will wash it out easily
  5. Leave the paste on your hair for about three to five hours (can leave it overnight if you want)
  6. Rinse the paste out with lukewarm water
  7. Shampoo your hair; you can use baby shampoo or any other shampoo.
Your gray/white hair will have a beautiful golden color. More...

How to apply indigo and henna on gray hair to get dark brown color

Important Information

Indigo is a shrub. It grows 3-5 m tall in America, Asia, and Australia. From this plant, natural and organic indigo powder is produced.

If your hair is gray but you wish to dye it dark brown (and you still want to have healthy hair, not affected by chemicals), you can follow these steps:

1. Prepare henna a day in advance: mix henna powder with water; add some lemon juice or apple cider vinegar.

2. Next day, mix indigo with henna

Mix henna powder (Yemen henna is considered as the best) with indigo:

two spoons of henna and four spoons of indigo will make your gray hair dark brown.

How to Prepare

Follow this step-by-step process:

1. Prepare henna, at least, eight hours (can be twenty-four hours or longer) before mixing it with indigo. Mix henna powder with water and add a little (a teaspoon) of apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice). Make it look as thick as yogurt. Mix it well. Cover the bowl tightly with a plastic bag (or a plastic lid). Leave it for at least 8 hours for the dye to release. Use only glass bowls and plastic or wooden spoons! Never use metal!

2. Wash your hair with shampoo; rinse it. Make it a little dry, with a towel.

3. Mix indigo powder with warm water. The water should be warm but not very hot.

4. Mix henna paste with indigo paste. [If you want, you can add two teaspoons of amla paste to make the color deeper]. Use thin rubber gloves. You must put the mixed paste on your hair as soon as possible, at least within 15 minutes. Do not be afraid to stain your skin with the paste. You will be able to wash it quickly afterward.

5. Cover your hair with a plastic bag and leave it for about 4 hours. If you wish, you can leave it overnight.  If you leave the paste on your hair for less than two hours, the result may be not as desired. If you leave it overnight, make sure that you do not stain your pillow. If you stain it, you will not be able to wash it out.

6. After 4 hours, rinse your hair well with lukewarm water. Then shampoo your hair and rinse it once more. That's it. Your hair is now dark brown. If you want it darker, repeat the whole process (make sure you have released henna for at least 8 hours).

Henna and indigo will not make your hair lighter if you repeat the above process. The more you apply it to your hair, the darker your hair will become. You can apply the mixed paste on your hair once a week or even more often. More applications will make your hair thicker. Also, after a few applications, you will notice that you do not feel any itchiness on your scalp and your scalp will become healthier than before.

Do all hair dye products cause cancer?

What Can Cause Cancer?

Before dyeing our hair, we should keep in mind the following: ‘The Environmental Working Group’ research results showed that almost seventy percent of hair-dye products may cause cancer.

According to the 1994 'National Cancer Institute' report, dark dyes that were used by consumers for a long time can enhance the risk of certain cancers such as multiple myelomas and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Also, 2001 ‘International Journal of Cancer’ study established that those persons who use chemical permanent hair dye are likely to develop bladder cancer. It is a serious warning!

There are quite a few dangerous ingredients. If you use chemical dyes, make sure that these dyes do not contain the following ingredients:
  • ammonia
  • peroxide
  • PPDs (para-phenylenediamines - create color and are carcinogenic)
  • coal tar (great cancer risk)
  • lead
  • toluene
  • resorcinol.
Beware of the above ingredients!

Why your scalp feels itchy...

What are the reasons?

There are many reasons why your scalp can be itchy: dandruff, dermatitis, inflammation of follicles, psoriasis, washing hair too frequently, poor quality of water, etc.

However, most probably the real reason your scalp is itchy - expensive chemical shampoos and chemical hair dye. It is the common cause in most cases.

How to fix this problem?

Organic shampoos (use Baby Shampoo if you cannot find organic shampoo) and organic hair dye will make a difference. As far as hair colouring is concerned, indigo and henna would be the best solution.

If you dye your hair with henna, your scalp will not be itchy. There will be no dandruff, no inflammation, no psoriasis and no dermatitis.

What is Organic

'Organic' Terminology

How do we understand the word "organic?" Do producers understand this word in the same way as we do?

When buying 'organic food' that is good for our hair and health, in general, we should look at the following USDA regulated terms on food labels:

What does it mean when we read 'explanation' of organic?

"100% organic" means that the food has no synthetic ingredients and can use the organic seal.

"Organic" means that the food has a minimum of 95% organic ingredients. It can also use the organic seal.

"Made with organic ingredients" means that the food must contain at least 70% organic ingredients. These foods cannot use the seal.

Meat, eggs, poultry, and dairy labeled "organic" must come from animals that have never received antibiotics or growth hormones. They are not genetically modified.

It is useful to know that standards for organic seafood, cosmetics and hair care products have not been set in most countries.
